This low-growing plant features finely divided, blue-green foliage and produces solitary, four-petaled flowers that close at night or during cloudy weather. The blooms, typically 2–3 inches in diameter, appear in spring and can continue into early summer, especially in cooler climates. The plant’s delicate appearance belies its hardiness and adaptability.​
Grows 12–15 inches tall and spreads 12–18 inches wide, forming a loose, mounding shape.​
