Description
Fragrant pitcher sage (Salvia spathacea) is a striking California native with bold magenta flowers and rich green, pineapple-scented leaves. Unlike many salvias, it thrives in part shade and spreads by underground rhizomes, making it a great groundcover for dry, shady areas.
Blooming from late winter into summer, its tall, showy flower spikes are a magnet for hummingbirds and native bees. Well-suited for woodland edges, under oaks, or dry slopes, it’s a standout in any pollinator-friendly garden. Once established, it requires little water and adds color and fragrance to West Coast landscapes.
