Description of Plant:
Heuchera americana ‘Dale’s Strain’ is a colorful selection of American alumroot grown for its striking foliage in shades of green, silver, burgundy, and deep purple. Delicate sprays of creamy white flowers rise above the leaves from late spring into summer, attracting hummingbirds and native pollinators. In addition, its evergreen foliage provides year-round color and texture in shaded gardens and containers.
Growth Habit:
This clump-forming evergreen perennial grows 12–18 inches tall and 12–18 inches wide, with flower stalks reaching up to 24 inches. It develops into a tidy mound that works beautifully in borders, woodland gardens, and decorative containers.
Watering Instructions:
Water regularly during establishment. Once established, provide consistent moisture, allowing the top inch of soil to dry slightly between waterings. During hot Southern California summers, occasional deep watering helps maintain healthy foliage.
Soil Needs:
Prefers rich, well-draining soil amended with organic matter. Good drainage is essential, but the soil should retain enough moisture to support healthy growth.
Sun Requirements:
Performs best in partial shade to full shade. It tolerates morning sun, but afternoon shade is recommended, especially in warmer inland areas of Southern California.
