Description of Plant:
Eriophyllum lanatum ‘Siskiyou’ is a selected form of the western native woolly sunflower, prized for its bright golden-yellow flowers and soft, silvery-gray foliage. Native to western North America, it brings vibrant color and texture to drought-tolerant and pollinator-friendly gardens. Its long-lasting blooms attract butterflies and native bees, making it an excellent choice for pollinator gardens, borders, and rock gardens.
Growth Habit:
This compact, mounding perennial grows about 12–18 inches tall and 18–24 inches wide. It forms tidy clumps that bloom from late spring through summer.
Watering Instructions:
Water regularly during establishment. Once established, water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry between waterings.
Soil Needs:
Prefers well-draining sandy, rocky, or gravelly soils. Avoid heavy, poorly drained soils and excessive organic matter.
Sun Requirements:
Thrives in full sun and produces the best flowering with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
Indoor or Outdoor Tips:
Best grown outdoors in native gardens, rock gardens, borders, and water-wise landscapes. Excellent for slopes and areas with reflected heat.
Perennial or Annual:
Perennial in Southern California.
Additional Tips:
Its long-lasting blooms are highly attractive to native bees and butterflies while the woolly foliage adds year-round interest. Deadheading spent flowers can encourage continued blooming.
